applications

The camera systems that we install are generally used for two distinct types of applications. The actual equipment installed is the same in each case, but it is configured differently.

In both cases, the images from the cameras can be viewed from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. The images from the cameras are excellent quality, and since they are fully self-contained units, they do not require connection to a computer, which enables them to be mounted in just about any location, with minimal wiring requirements, especially when combined with the options of wireless network connectivity or Power over Ethernet.

Networked security cameras

In this application, access to the camera images is private and restricted to authorised personnel only. The camera video streams can be recorded onto the hard drive of one or more PCs. The cameras can also be set to send an alert by email (or FTP) if a trigger threshold condition is reached. The email contains still images from the video stream at the time of the alert. The trigger threshold can be either a change in the image being viewed by the camera (e.g. if an intruder enters the field of view) or a trigger event from another security system (e.g. if a traditional alarm system is tripped).

Professional webcams

In this mode, the cameras are normally publicly accessible over the Internet. The cameras can be behind a suitably-configured firewall, and a maximum number of concurrent users can be set (the maximum for each camera is 100). A maximum frame rate can also be set to limit the bandwidth usage and load on the cameras.
